In a victory for Mississippi workers, Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hoffman announced the Mississippi Senate is working on a bill that will expand Mississippi Medicaid to cover workers who cannot afford primary insurance.

The bill is expected to provide coverage to approximately 230,000 Mississippians, giving them vital access to preventative care. The bill will likely contain a work requirement, and is Hoffman's response to a previous expansion plan proposed by House Democrats.

This bill is expected to have bipartisan support, as our leaders can agree on protecting working people in Mississippi. This continues our Senate's positive trend of putting aside partisan politics in favor of providing protection to the people of Mississippi. Earlier last year, another bipartisan billprovided 12 months of postpartum support for mothers. This is a common sense pro-life bill ensuring the protection of mothers and newborn children.

This bill would significantly advance healthcare for Mississippi workers, especially those in rural areas. Governor Tate Reeves has previously expressed opposition to the idea of Medicaid Expansion, but with republicans and democrats in the Senate putting aside their differences in order to support the people of Mississippi, we hope Governor Reeves can do the same.
